Bedford Press edition of Pugin's Contrasts Rotated by James Langdon.
Pugin’s Contrasts Rotated as explained by James.
This publication makes a corrective gesture. Architect AWN Pugin’s 1836 book Contrasts presented a comparative analysis of what Pugin considered the glorious buildings of the middle ages and the detestable architecture of his own time. The etchings that illustrated this work originally appeared awkwardly paired on single pages. Here pages from two original editions of Contrasts (1841 and 1968) are rotated 90 degrees and rebound so that their illustrations appear on facing pages. A printed edition of this work, made from photocopies of the 1841 edition, is newly published by Bedford Press.
The edition of seven remade books will shortly be available from the AA Bookshop — Further works.
